KENYA

Walji studied fashion design in Malaysia and returned to Kenya in 2011. He founded JW Couture, and designed custom made garments for bridal parties and other special occasions. He is also a natural artist, and paints in his downtime. He is known for his work at Kiko Romeo, a local Kenyan business and was quickly assigned to design their menswear using African fabrics. His designs are known to be rather fierce and remarkably unique and he is a constant favorite. 

In the wake of the post election violence in Nairobi,Kenya, he established the annual 'Fashion for Peace' fashion show, in order to bring together emerging designers from Africa. This has provided the ideal opportunity for Jamil Walji’s work, which has benefited from the increased media coverage following his award and continued participation in the annual event.
